PartnershipS at NewCities
The NewCities Institute believes that by engaging citizens on vital issues – by listening to them and creating strategies that correspond with their collective vision – communities are better equipped to meet the competitive challenges of the global economy. Over time, the implementation of these strategies lead to a permanent change in the civic culture of the community, how decision-making occurs, who has a seat at the table, and how government interacts with its citizens. Our experience shows that this innovative approach to economic development is successful.
At the NewCities Institute we have embraced a variety of partners including universities, community colleges, the environmental community, and educational organizations. Partnerships in education provide the most effective way out of the poverty that has gripped many parts of our state. Our efforts to collaborate with the education community have taken the form of several innovative partnerships including a merger between the NewCities Institute and the Partnership for Successful Schools.

“Let us continue to build and use our community relationships, as citizens and local leaders join forces to educate our children at even higher levels. Our future quality of life is inextricably tied to the educational attainment of our children.” Tom Prather, President
