“See the Possible”
Sylvia L. Lovely, President, NewCities Institute
She was born in “city hall” so perhaps it was destiny that Sylvia L. Lovely is one of the country’s most provocative voices on leadership, personal responsibility and community engagement.
Once called a “five-foot firecracker”, she is an emotive speaker moving audiences internationally to respond to their own passions and make a difference in their communities. Her enlightening commentaries appear in major market newspapers and on national public radio. As an expert in community building, she has been featured on CNN and CNBC. Sylvia has published two books based around the 12 Principles of Community Building, “America’s New Cities: The Little Blue Book of Big Ideas” and “America’s New Cities The Little Red Book of Everyday Heroes”.
The NewCities Institute’s work includes research, community building, education and visioning through a number of strategic partnerships across the nation and in Europe.
Lovely serves on a number of national boards and committees that foster collaboration, education, preservation, innovation, arts and economic development. She has received numerous awards including Kentucky’s Woman of Influence, Kentucky’s Power Elite and the 2006 Vic Hellard Award, Kentucky’s highest award for public service.
Sylvia's advice to people who want to make a difference: "Mimic Greatness."
